OSHA safety and accident prevention spotlighted in latest guide from Graphic Products
Online, February 26, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Beaverton, Oregon - February 25, 2010 - OSHA Accident Reports, a new guide describing 12 fatal accidents as found in OSHA's Fatal Facts Accidents Reports, is now available from Graphic Products, Inc., a leading provider of workplace safety solutions by means of industrial label printers and labeling supplies.
OSHA Accident Reports also includes accident prevention recommendations based on specific OSHA standards like OSHA 29 CFR and PART 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction, and it offers tips for safe work practices.
"This new OSHA guide is a valuable tool for customers because, quite often, workplace safety is learned by first recognizing and then preventing mistakes others have made in the past that proved fatal," said Daniel Evans, assistant marketing manager at Graphic Products. "Understanding the work environment conditions and human failures as contributing factors in these 12 fatal accidents is vital to safety training as a means towards preventing accidents in the future."
One fatal accident summary in the guide, "Crushed by Falling Machinery," indicates citations were issued for serious violations of OSHA standards. The accident summary suggests the death of a 29 year-old general contractor three weeks on the job likely could have been prevented had written procedures been established outlining steps for proper installation techniques and had thorough equipment inspection been followed prior to each shift use.
The following are the 12 OSHA fatal accidents as described in the guide, OSHA Accident Reports:
• Fall from a Different Level
• Struck by a Nail
• Explosion
• Struck by Collapsing Crane Boom
• Caught In or Between
• Trench Cave-In
• Electrocution
• Caught by Rotating Part
• Caught in Machinery
• Asphyxiation
• Death Due to Burns
• Crushed by Falling Machinery
As established in the new OSHA guide, many of the 12 fatal accidents could have been prevented had workers been exposed to visible, compliant safety labels and signs at the point of need.
"One cannot overstate the need to provide visible and clear OSHA safety messaging in the workplace," said Evans. "Hazards exist all around us, and so it's also important to recognize the need for safety resources like quality label printers and sign printers capable of producing OSHA-compliant safety labels and signs."
