Otmaro Ruiz Nominated for Grammys for Catina DeLuna's Lado B Brazilian Project

Los Angeles,CA, February 9, 2016 (Newswire.com) - ​Los Angeles’s highly recognized arranger/producer Otmaro Ruiz and International Recording Artist, Catina DeLuna joined forces in 2015 to release their Portuguese version of “The Girl from Ipanema.” 50 years ago in 1965, the original recording of “The Girl from Ipanema” won Grammy’s "Record of the Year” and was inducted into THE GRAMMY HALL Of FAME in 2000.

Ruiz shares his nomination in a mainstream category with the famed David Bowie.

The nomination of Ruiz/DeLuna's version of the beloved song “GAROTA DE IPANEMA" has caught the attention of music critics and fans Internationally, and catapulted them to appear live in countless radio interviews and publications including a feature in the current edition of Rolling Stone Magazine Brazil and a spot on Planeta Brasil Television.

Ruiz was the keyboardist and pianist for DIANNE REEVES on the recording of “In the Moment” LIVE - IN CONCERT which won the Grammy for BEST JAZZ VOCAL ALBUM IN 2001. His collaboration with Alex Acuna’s “Acuarelas de Tambores” in the same year also received a Grammy nomination.

Catina DeLuna & Lado B Brazilian Project is an Independent Project crowd funded through the Pledge Music platform where supporters contribute to the production costs of an independent cd.

This cd was produced and recorded in its entirety by DeLuna and Ruiz in their home studio, and proudly features Los Angeles' most prominent session musicians.

DeLuna, is a celebrated singer, pianist, composer, orchestrator and voice over artist in her native Brazil. She marks her debut in the US with the CD Catina DeLuna & Lado B Brazilian project.

Mr. Ruiz is proud to have been a longtime contributor to GRAMMY’s own GRAMMY Camp Music Program for which he has become a mentor and an inspiration for the next generation of gifted musicians.
