Artists
The beloved two-day East Austin event-December 8th and 9th-will showcase a large variety of Texas artists working in varied mediums. Transforming the mid-century Maplewood Elementary into a veritable winter wonderland of fine art and handmade gifts, Cherrywood Art Fair is thrilled to announce the artists that will be featured at this year's event. A broad diversity of artistic disciplines are will be represented, including: painting, mixed media, sculpture, printmaking, photography, woodwork, and textiles in the forms of fine art, home decor, fashion accessories, jewelry, and much more. Full list of artists and their medium below or online here.
Eats and Entertainment
Art isn't the only thing fair-goers can expect this December. There's truly something for everyone at the 2012 Cherrywood Art Fair, with music, food and kid-friendly activities to enhance the holiday shopping experience.
People can't really have a full-blown fair without food, and Cherrywood Art Fair has treats for every taste bud-warm drinks from Elixer coffee, empanadas from mmmpanadas, sandwiches and doughnuts from Snarkys, Asian street food from Fresh Off The Truck, tamales from Tamale Place and decadent cookies from Bake Austin.
Providing the shopping soundtrack-Patricia Vonne, The Zoltars, Holy Wave, Growl, The Blitzens, Troy Campbell, Eric Blakely, and Kathy Murray and Cherrywood Road will be playing throughout the two-day event, among other artists to be announced later. There will also be performance by Flamencura-Austin's premier Flamenco dance company-and acoustic kid-friendly sets from Foxing Quarterly.
The little ones certainly haven't left out of this year's programming. The Outdoor Family Fun Area-new to this year's event-is chock full of exciting hands-on activities for even the youngest fair attendees. Foxing Quarterly will present children's poetry and short stories, and play some classic tunes with a kid-friendly twist. Lomography Gallery Store will host a workshop on how to use one of their simpler camera models and hold a festival-wide photo scavenger hunt for participants of all ages.
Extending Roots Beyond I-35
While Cherrywood Art Fair has always proudly featured artists from across the city for shoppers across the state, this year they are partnering with an arts icon from a decidedly different entity. The Chula League Cherrywood Art Fair is organizing an exhibition of fair posters and photographs of their Little Artist BIG ARTIST program in the Long Center for the Performing Arts lobby during their presentation of Cirque Dreams Holidaze. The Long Center will also have a presence at Cherrywood Art Fair-offering deals on holiday productions and their season.
Volunteer and Sponsorship Opportunities
It takes over 100 volunteers to make Cherrywood Art Fair happen every year. Opportunities are available for artist load-in and breakdown, greeters, artist booth spotters, silent auction cashiers, artist food services, decorating and general support. About Little Artist/Big Artist
Little Artist BIG ARTIST is a program of Chula League, and is funded in part by a grant from the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division. Little Artist BIG ARTIST pairs East Austin elementary school students with professional artists to experience the creative process from ideation through commercialization. Mentored by a Big Artist, the Little Artist creates at least two artworks and a journal of the experience. Both works, along with selected art by the professional artists, will be displayed in the Little Artist BIG ARTIST spring show, then one of each Little Artist's creations will be auctioned at the Cherrywood Art Fair in December.
