Pain Management Expert to Join to Ventura Orthopedics

Kamyar Assil, M.D. transitions to new practice on May 2, 2016

Kamyar Assil, M.D., one of the first fellowship-trained pain management specialists in Ventura County, is to join Ventura Orthopedics Medical Group on May 2, 2016. Previously the founder and medical director of Conejo Pain Specialists Medical Group, Assil will continue to serve as a pain specialist at Ventura Orthopedics — allowing existing patients to transfer, in addition to welcoming new patients.

Assil has been a practicing physician for more than two decades, with specializations and expertise in pain management, physical therapy and anesthesiology. Assil focuses on targeting the source of pain –– treating everything from severe headaches, neck pain and nerve damage to herniated disks and lower back pain. He works to improve the quality of life for his patients by exploring physical therapy, precision spine injections and other specialized forms of pain manipulation, such as diagnostic injections or implantable devices.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Assil as a new member of the Ventura Orthopedics team," said Dr. Ray Nickel, medical director of Ventura Orthopedics. "With his many years of experience and expertise in pain management, he brings a new dynamic to our practice which will greatly benefit many individuals in the community."

“I’m excited to now be an integral part of Ventura Orthopedics’ practice while expanding its offerings in pain management,” said Assil. “I’m looking forward to continuing to serve my patients through this positive transition with more convenient locations for appointments and access to the knowledge and expertise of Ventura Orthopedics’ staff.”

Assil received a Bachelor of Science with honors in psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a medical degree from the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine. Additionally, Assil is an active member of many medical societies related to his field of expertise. He serves as a senior instructor of the Spine Intervention Society (SIS) and teaches courses at USC Medical School’s department of anesthesiology.

A qualified medical evaluator (QME), Assil also practices as an expert witness for interventional medicine and pain management. He has completed an internship in internal medicine, a residency in anesthesiology and two pain management fellowships.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Assil as a new member of the Ventura Orthopedics team,” said Dr. Ray Nickel, medical director of Ventura Orthopedics. “With his many years of experience and expertise in pain management, he brings a new dynamic to our practice which will greatly benefit many individuals in the community.”

Founded in the 1930s, Ventura Orthopedics is a group of physicians and physical therapists with locations throughout Ventura County, including offices in Ventura, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Oxnard.
