Palo Alto Family Ymca To Host Free Multicultural Celebration Saturday, July 10 At Ventura Center
Online, July 1, 2010 (Newswire.com) - PALO ALTO, CA - July 1, 2010 - The Palo Alto Family YMCA announced today that its Multicultural Celebration will take place at its Ventura Center Saturday, July 10 from 12 noon until 4 p.m. The free event located at 3990 Ventura Ct. in Palo Alto, is a unique event that embraces all cultures living in Palo Alto and the Bay Area, and will feature various activities for individuals and families of all ages.
"The Multicultural Celebration event is the first of its kind at the Ventura Teen Center," said Scott Glissmeyer, Executive Director of the Palo Alto Family YMCA. "We want the entire neighborhood and local Palo Alto residents to come out and celebrate life, culture and diversity. When they are there, they should also check out the teen activity center to see what we offer for free so local teens can come to a fun and safe environment after school."
The free event will feature food, beverages, and activities that celebrate cultures from all over the Bay Area. Dance performances begin at 1:30p.m., and include Ballet Folklorico, Belly Dance, Bhangra and Hip Hop. A classic car show is also part of the event where admirers can check out the coolest, cleanest, and classiest cars around. A bounce house will also be present for children to enjoy.
Subsidized entirely by donations through the annual Care & Share Campaign, the YMCA Ventura Center offers a wide array of free activities and resources for Palo Alto middle and high school students. The center is open Monday through Friday from 3-6p.m. where activities available for teens include homework assistance, one on one tutoring through Dreamcatchers, IMac computer and internet access, fitness and dance programs, social activities, and a comprehensive college success center, including college research, a college tour, and four-year college scholarships.
"We're excited to host the multicultural event at the Ventura Center," said Ana Valencia, Community Engagement Coordinator of the Palo Alto Family YMCA. Ventura is a valuable asset for the surrounding neighborhoods of Palo Alto, and with the recent re-model that the teen center just underwent through the volunteer team of Keller-Williams Real Estate, we hope to demonstrate to all of the attendees how Ventura Center can help local teens in the area throughout the year, beyond this special event!"
