Palo Alto Grand Prix Series Kicks Off First Race Of 2010 With Juana Run Saturday, February 20th
The 14th Annual Juana Run Benefits The Terman PTA & Gunn Sports Boosters
Online, February 17, 2010 (Newswire.com) - PALO ALTO, CA - February 17, 2010 - The Palo Alto Grand Prix released today its calendar of upcoming races for 2010, beginning with the Juana Run Saturday, February 20th taking place at Juana Briones Elementary School in Palo Alto. The run starts at 8:30 a.m. and benefits the Terman PTA as well as the Gunn Sports Boosters. The fun family event is a competitive 8K race on a certified course for serious runners featuring a free post-race pancake breakfast. A one-mile kids race will take place at 10 a.m. for fifth graders to pre-kindergarten.
"The Palo Alto Grand Prix series is designed to encourage active, healthy lifestyles while bringing community members together," said Nettie Azoulay of the Palo Alto Grand Prix. "We celebrate people of all ages who participate in our races, and by creating awards around the yearlong series, we hope to increase the number of people in the area who will commit to being active as a regular part of their lives."
Other races in the Palo Alto Grand Prix series include the Lifelong Fitness 5K on March 22 which supports the Lifelong Fitness Alliance, an organization that advocates lifelong wellness and helps provide opportunities for health and fitness; the Running of the Bulls 5K taking place May 9 which raises money for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation and the Gunn High School Senior Class; the Moonlight Run September 24 which benefits the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund which awards more than $200,000 in grants each year to local non-profits and charitable organizations; the Marsh Madness 5K/10K Run and Walk October 23 which raises funds to enhance, advance, and provide access to Palo Alto Family YMCA programs that help local youth and teens be healthy; and the Home Run November 14 benefits Stanford Habitat for Humanity.
Each race is conducted with the support of hundreds of volunteers and generous sponsors. Local service groups, schools, businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals come together to make the events successful community gatherings and fundraising opportunities. Every Grand Prix race is unique to the series, providing a wide range of fun activities to accompany the races, including live music, children activities, great food, fun costumes, prizes and more.

The Palo Alto Grand Series is a partnership of local road races in the Palo Alto area working together to get individuals involved in the community. Participants in the races are awarded points for participation and finishing times in each event they complete. Top finishers in each age category are honored at an awards dinner at the end of the year.
