Pancreatic Cancer Survivor Creates Foundation to Fund Research and Help Others

Sheila Sky Kasselman was diagnosed with the most common form of pancreatic cancer in the fall of 2007. She completed chemotherapy, radiation and 'Whipple' surgery to remove her tumor. Nine months after her diagnosis, Sheila founded and dedicated Sky Foundation to finding an early detection for this daunting disease.

Birmingham, MI, June 12, 2017 (Newswire.com) - Sky provides seed grants to researchers at Karmanos Cancer Institute at Wayne State University in Detroit, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, University of California in San Diego and the University of Washington in Seattle.

Next year will be Sky Foundation’s 10-year anniversary. Sky Foundation continues to raise awareness and fund research for the early detection of pancreatic cancer.

Metro Community Development Announces Deadline for Genesee County Minority PPE Grant Program
Genesee County minority businesses (African-American and Latinx) are eligible for special grant funding. The grant fund has been established to help Genesee County minority businesses by reimbursing business-interruption and closure expenses, and other costs incurred to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. Qualifying businesses will receive reimbursement for expenses incurred after March 1, 2020 or to pre-pay new purchases for supplies and equipment. All funds must be disbursed before December 15th.
