Parent Choices for Struggling Teen's Show Rebuilding the Village
Parent Choices for Struggling Teen's show hosted by Lon Woodbury and guest Beth Black discuss adults today not listening and spending enough time with their children.
Online, June 16, 2011 (Newswire.com) - "In many ways, the national village (our community) is failing our children," asserted Beth Black, Founder of Cherokee Creek Boys School in South Carolina. Ms. Black appeared as a guest on 'Parent Choices for Struggling Teens' Monday, June 13, 2011.
"What too many of our children are missing in growing up are adults that listen to them, experience with the outdoors and nature, quiet time with no tech toys, and an education in the vital and almost universal values of courage, love and wisdom," Black stated. "Without these experiences, children are missing some of the basic building blocks they need to achieve balance in their lives."
Black continued, "Research shows that when a family simply has dinner together on a regular basis, the children tend to do better. This one simple step, does more than almost anything else to give children the solid foundation they need to avoid the pitfalls of modern society and grow up healthy."
"Children also need parents to be parents rather than buddies," she explained. "The parents' role is to provide limits and boundaries for their children."
"One serious problem is the deterioration of the extended family and the loss of support that can help the parents' load," she asserted, "isolating the parents at a time when they need all the help they can get."
Ms. Black discussed many good points about the lack of the village in today's society as well as the impacts this lack has on children and families. This session, "ReBuilding The Village," will be available June 14 at latalkradio.com/Lon.php.
Cherokee Creek Boys School is a middle boarding school for young teens and pre-teen boys.
