Parkatmyhouse Selects GlobalGiving UK as Partner for Environmental Initiative

Online parking marketplace Parkatmyhouse joins forces with GlobalGiving UK to support grassroots social and environmental projects in less developed countries

LONDON, 14 June 2010 -Parkatmyhouse.co.uk, the online private parking marketplace, has selected charitable foundation GlobalGiving.co.uk as partner in a new environmental initiative. The collaboration offers Parkatmyhouse customers a means of lessening the environmental impact of their car journeys through supporting locally led social and environmental projects that fall outside the remit of retail carbon offset provider schemes.

Parkatmyhouse now donates 10p from every booking to five GlobalGiving projects in less developed countries. The company will also offer a carbon calculator for motorists and a donation option at check out for customers who wish to give more towards GlobalGiving projects.

"We have launched this initiative in order to help reduce the environmental impact of motoring," says Anthony Eskinazi, founder of Parkatmyhouse. "Partnering with GlobalGiving provides our company and customers with the opportunity to address climate change through directly supporting worthwhile social and environmental projects that wouldn't otherwise have access to funding from supporters in the UK or from retail carbon offset providers."

"At GlobalGiving.co.uk we are really excited to partner with Parkatmyhouse to help promote and support grassroots projects that positively impact the environment and address climate change," says Rachel Smith, Head of Partnerships. "Our mission is to create an engaging and meaningful giving experience for individual donors and companies. Our partnership with Parkatmyhouse will help users of the website see how environmentally focused projects help change the lives of the local communities involved."

Parkatmyhouse will support five GlobalGiving projects ranging from environmental conservation and livelihood projects to building economically feasible and environmentally sound housing.

"The voluntary carbon offset market is still largely unregulated and many projects do not deliver demonstrated benefits to the environment or local host communities", continues Eskinazi. "By partnering with GlobalGiving our company and customers will be helping to fund projects that have been vetted to ensure genuine social benefit. As two online organisations there is a strong synergy in an online collaboration that directly connects donors to the local communities they are helping to support."

Founded in 2006, Parkatmyhouse has tens of thousands of members throughout the UK who use the online service to book a property-owner's driveway, garage or car parking space on a one-off or regular, short-term or long-term basis. Drivers save up to 70% off the cost of parking while property owners can earn as much as £5,500 per year renting out their space. About GlobalGiving
GlobalGiving.co.uk is a web based charity that directly supports vetted grass roots charity projects in over 70 countries throughout the world. Grassroots charities often struggle to get financing for their projects; the GlobalGiving.co.uk online marketplace concept means that projects, run locally by dedicated project leaders, receive funding for their lifespan.
We ensure a direct impact by sending donations to the chosen project and provide communication between the donor and the project through regular email updates.
Projects and organisations are vetted to ensure they are genuine, proper and charitable, meaning donors do not have to worry about their donation getting to the project.
Donations can start from just £5.00. 90% of all donations go direct to the project with just 10% going towards GlobalGiving.co.uk's own charitable costs. These costs include sourcing, researching and vetting projects, promoting the website, credit card processing, foreign currency exchange and transaction costs and Gift Aid processing costs.
Online fundraising has been growing in excess of 50% a year in the UK and USA.
GlobalGiving.co.uk was launched in September 2008 and aims to replicate the success of the American website by offering UK donors the opportunity to donate directly to grass root projects.
GlobalGiving UK is a UK registered charity (no 1122823)
