Partnership Gives Young Enterprise Students University Advantage
Online, December 21, 2010 (Newswire.com) - The national business charity and OCR are to offer UCAS points to young people taking part in the Company Programme, starting this year.
More than 170 students, from eight schools and colleges in the area, have entered this year's competition and will have the opportunity to gain the new Level 3 OCR qualification, which could give them up to 40 UCAS points.
This provides them with an advantage over applicants without the points. Universities also look favourably on applicants with Company Programme experience.
Young Enterprise's Chairman for the North Staffordshire area, Richard Swancott, said: "Students have always benefited from the practical business experience Young Enterprise gives them, but usually in terms of increased confidence and skills applied in other subjects.
"This news provides a more concrete benefit for taking part - it will give students in the Company Programme a distinct advantage when they are applying for university places."
The Company Programme is aimed at 15-19-year-olds and requires them to establish their own business and run it for a full academic year.
They gain practical experience of raising capital, developing ideas for products and services, managing finances and promoting their business through annual trade fairs.
Alongside that, from May 2011, when the first exam will take place, students will gain 20 UCAS points for a pass, 30 for a pass with merit, and 40 for a pass with distinction.
