Pathways Financial Credit Union Delivers 450 Coats for Children
Springfield elementary school benefits from the charitable effort
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio, December 20, 2024 (Newswire.com) - Pathways Financial Credit Union partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Springfield to donate $10,000 for the purchase of coats for kids in need this winter season. On October 29, Pathways' employees and Kiwanis Club members hand-delivered 450 coats to students at Kenwood Elementary School in Springfield.
"One of the best things in life that you can do is make a child happy, and we did that many times today," said Greg Kidwell, president of Pathways.
Pathways donated $7,500 for the purchase of coats, and the Kiwanis Club donated the remaining amount. Schools are selected for the donation based on the percentage of students who qualify as coming from low- or moderate-income households. The distribution event and selection of school in need was coordinated through Bonzy Charities and Operation Warm. This is the second year that Pathways has participated in this coat drive.
One of the Pathways' employees who participated in the event, Robert Allison, reflected on the impact the event had on him: "I grew up in the streets of Springfield in a four-child household with a single mother, and we didn't have the means for a brand-new coat every year. A lot of these kids living in Springfield are in the same situation. This was such a beautiful thing to do, and these kids will remember it for years to come."
Pathways values its relationships with the communities it serves and often looks for ways to educate or give back. In the past year the credit union has participated in fundraising and sponsorship programs for organizations including Nationwide Children's Hospital, Salvation Army, Community Care Center, American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association, and Women's Leadership Conference as well as directly with schools, first responders and youth sports programs in the Columbus and Dayton areas.
