PEM® Surface Creations Offers Slip-Resistant Flooring For Marine Environments

Used worldwide to reduce slippage and provide padding for safety and comfort

May 7, 2010: ST. LOUIS, Mo. - PEM® Surface Creations, a leader in premium slip-resistant matting, offers unique solutions to the marine industry to reduce slippage and provide padding for safety and comfort. PEM's flooring offers a textured surface, constructed of soft PVC, giving comfort to bare feet in hot, wet or high traffic areas such as boat decks, swim platforms and boat docks.

"We have helped protect kids and families from falls, splinters and hot surfaces for 13 years," said Rob Amelung, vice president of PEM Surface Creations. "Many marina and boat owners have used PEM's slip resistant flooring as a proactive approach for wet, slippery surfaces, where falls and injury are likely to occur."

Using poly extruded matting (PEM) made from virgin raw thermal plastics, the matting is designed with a porous looping construction that creates a durable and soft textured surface. The material contains an antimicrobial biocide that guards against the growth of mildew, fungi and bacteria.

The porous construction allows moisture to flow through or evaporate to eliminate standing water and reduce algae growth. PEM's flooring is resistant to environmental and chemical degradation, extreme temperature and wind uptake. The matting's durability and longevity eliminates maintenance, like constant staining and painting of exposed wood surfaces and cleans with only a sweeping or wash down.

For marine surface protection, PEM provides an excellent covering on bunk rails to protect boat gel coats when placed in dry rack storage systems. And during the summer months, it protects boat decks from the chips and scratches caused by fishing and scuba gear, and keeps equipment stationary on the deck.

PEM is lightweight for easy handling and trims effortlessly with a razor knife for custom fitting in all areas. The slip-resistant flooring is produced in two thicknesses and various colors to meet specific marine applications.
