MMR President and CEO Pepper Rutland is kicking off 2020 with a rollout of wellness initiatives aimed at encouraging employees to adopt a healthy lifestyle in the new year. MMR will partner with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center to target oral cancer and tobacco use by setting up an on-site mobile clinic for employees.

“The mental and physical health of my team is top priority, and I am committed to providing exceptional benefits and cutting-edge health and wellness programs so that employees can seek the best care in a convenient and affordable way,” said Rutland.

Mary Bird Perkins - Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center’s Prevention on the Go - Workplace Program brings early detection, prevention, education and screenings to company worksites at no charge to the employee.

In 2018, MMR was one of the first companies to participate in the program, screening 135 employees for oral and skin cancers, with nine abnormal findings. MMR has since increased its participation by including screenings for breast cancer and will extend the service to its other Louisiana-based offices in the new year.

On January 16, Dr. Robert Peden, an otolaryngologist (head and neck surgeon) with the Cancer Center, will be at MMR Headquarters to perform oral cancer exams. In addition, employees will have the opportunity to be counseled by a medical professional and receive smoking cessation support.

Pepper Rutland and MMR are encouraging all headquarters staff, over 300 employees, to register for the screening. All participants will receive giveaways and be entered into a drawing to win gift cards and prizes.

MMR’s involvement with the Prevention on the Go - Workplace Program is just one of the unique ways the company cares for employees’ health and wellness in addition to offering an on-site gym with bootcamp classes, paid/discounted gym memberships, telemedicine and more.  In addition, MMR pays 100 percent of its employees (and their covered dependents) monthly healthcare premiums after seven years of employment.
