Perle Systems Enhances IOLAN Terminal Server Firmware

New Perle IOLAN Firmware V4.2 supports Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)

Perle Systems, a global provider of advanced serial to Ethernet and secure device networking solutions, today announced enhanced firmware for all IOLAN Terminal Server, Console Servers and Device Servers. The new V4.2 firmware for all IOLAN Terminal Servers now supports Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). By upgrading to the new firmware, IOLAN users will be able to use the SFTP client on the IOLAN to upload and download files to a central SFTP server.

"In the current regulatory and compliance driven environment associated with many companies today, the inherent lack of security for FTP has become unacceptable", says John Feeney, Chief Operating Office at Perle Systems. "Using packet sniffing technology, a malicious intruder can capture sensitive data and compromise network security. Perle is committed to continually enhancing our product lines to provide our customer base with products that meet the highest levels of network security protocols."

Using the SFTP client on the IOLAN a user can use the Command Line Interface (CLI) or web manager to initiate a file exchange with an SFTP file server. Files could include configuration, boot up files, firmware, plug-ins, etc. In addition, a custom created script on an SFTP server also enables an automated batch style file exchange by instructing the IOLAN, via a secure CLI session, to obtain a file for download or upload.
