PERVERT a new play written and directed by Dean Preston, has been picked up to be produced by The Variations Theatre Group for their 2010 Harvest Festival. Coming off of its run at the Manhattan Repertory Theatre, 'Pervert' is making its off-Broadway debut at the newly renovated LABA, a larger space more appropriately accommodating to the play's style. In the wake of all of the media surrounding cyber bullies and predators, this play comes as a modern wake up call for the internet generation.

A ballsy dark comedy for the cyber age, 'Pervert' concerns the story of a girl who likes to find weirdos in chat rooms and mess around with them for fun, but when one chat hits a little close to home she decides to find the real pervert and expose him. What ensues is a dramatic exploration that seeks to challenge our notions of love and the true meaning of perversion, showing us how we become the labels we make. What do you really get off on?

With Jesikah Murray, Charlie Solis, Bobbi Owens, Emily Rupp & Brandon Peker

Assistant Director Artem Yatsunov

The 'Pervert' cast and crew are excited to be a part of the The Harvest One- Act Play Festival by the Variations Theatre Group, Inc (VTG), a festival the young company hopes to continue to produce as an annual showcase. It promotes the sponsorship of emerging talent "in all aspects of the stage, as part of VTG's mission to provide an opportunity for artists to develop new, fresh work". The selected plays receive a showing at the new LABA Theatre at the 14th Street Y beginning on November 11th, 2010. The competition is in typical festival style: Over the course of two weeks, each play will be presented for both audiences and a panel of judges for the chance to move up in the rounds. There will be three official rounds of the festival, with winners of each round chosen by a combination of audience and judges' votes. Also there will be a Wild Card night for plays that might have not made the semi-finals; two additional plays will compete for a spot in the final round.

The winning play will receive a grand prize of $1,000.00 and the playwright the opportunity to develop their work into a full length production with the VTG next season. Awards will also be given out for Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Director. The awards ceremony and final performances will be held on November 20th, 2010 at 4pm. In addition, each play has the opportunity to be selected for publication in an anthology by The VTG, The Best Plays From the Harvest One-Act Festival: Volume 1.
