Peter Erskine pairs up with Auralex to provide HoverDecks for USC Thornton School of Music

USC Thornton School of Music - Los Angeles, CA

Recently the USC Thornton School of Music was faced with sound transmission issues, and Auralex Acoustics was happy to help. Adjunct Professor of Jazz Studies and renowned jazz drummer, Peter Erskine, knows the issues of sound transmission well. As an expert drummer, Mr. Erskine has a good handle on how to control sound as well as the sound isolation issues caused by drums and drumming. This band of students at USC Thornton School of Music posed a new issue for him, though; a classroom of students simultaneously drumming on electronic kits with rubber kick pedal pads still would seemingly be a perfect solution for controlling the preserved noise level for the rest of the building. The problem still remained, however, that the impact of several kick drum pedals hitting the floor at the same time was overwhelming for the offices below. To solve the issue, Auralex Acoustics donated 9 HoverDeck 64s to float beneath each drum kit. The Auralex HoverDeck is designed to isolate drums from a stage, concrete floor, or multi-level building to keep an artist's sound consistent and clear.

Once the HoverDecks were in place, Peter had this to say, "Happily, the addition of the HoverDecks to the drum lab took care of that issue! They are a handsome and effective addition to most any musical environment." Peter has also used the HoverDeck for his own personal use in his home studio and on the road. "Auralex's HoverDeck not only solved a possibly very thorny sound problem, as the drums were placed on a riser which was placed on a manufactured stage, but the HoverDeck actually prevented any sound problems we could have encountered," said Erskine.
