Peter Mikulecky Named Head of School at Fusion Academy in Orange County
Online, June 14, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Officials at Fusion Academy Orange County (www.FusionOrangeCounty), a new college-prep private school offering students in grades 6-12 a unique one-to-one learning experience, recently announced that Dr. Peter Mikulecky will serve as the first head of school when doors open this fall.
Fusion Academy Orange County is modeled after Fusion Academy and Learning Center in Solana Beach (www.FusionSanDiego.com), which has been providing one-to-one academic and life skills programs to students for 20 years. The school's opening falls shortly on the heels of the opening of Fusion Academy Los Angeles (www.FusionLosAngeles.com) this spring. Dr. Mikulecky joins the Orange County location after serving as co-director of the San Diego school since 2007.
"Having seen firsthand the impact Fusion Academy has on students, I'm proud to be a part of the school's continued expansion in Southern California," Dr. Mikulecky said. "It's no secret that all students learn differently. Therefore, at Fusion, we're committed to identifying how each student learns and then tailoring our approach accordingly. It's great when you see the 'switch' come on and you know you've turned a student on to becoming a life-long learner."
Dr. Mikulecky's journey to Fusion Academy is atypical to your average educator's. Before attending college, he completed a four-year stint in the Army as a linguist/interrogator. During his tour of duty, he was stationed in Kuwait, where he served as an interpreter between the Kuwaiti military and the United States Armored Cavalry and Special Forces, and at Guantanamo Bay, where he was part of a small intelligence team that worked in Haitian refugee camps.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Indiana University, where he received a BS in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and a Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry, respectively, Dr. Mikulecky worked in a biochemistry research lab prior to joining Fusion Academy San Diego. In addition to his diverse professional background, he has written several books for the wildly popular Dummies series, including AP Biology for Dummies, AP Chemistry for Dummies and Chemistry Workbook for Dummies.
