Pharma Forum Delivers Meetings Industry Trends

Pharma Forum 2016, the world’s leading life sciences forum on achieving excellence in U.S. and global meeting management, recently drew more than 800 pharmaceutical, biomedical, and other life sciences meeting managers and supplier partners to the Marriott Marquis in New York. Of the 315 planner participants, 125 were in-house corporate planners, a 35 percent increase over prior years. Held March 20–23, the conference, which is co-organized by CBI and MeetingsNet took content, innovation, and networking to the highest level yet.

As a part of the week’s education, Mike Roberts, President of RX Worldwide Meetings, Inc, moderated a panel discussion on the topic of “How Pharmaceutical Regulations Are Impacting My Practice”. The panel of physicians including; Leslie Citrome, MD, MPH, Clinical Professor, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, New York Medical College; Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Clinical Practice; Edwin Borman, MD, Medical Director, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust; Michael Shannon, MD, Chair of Endocrinology/Diabetes Team and Lead Provider Informaticist, Providence Health & Services; and Stephen R. Permut, MD, JD, Chair, Board of Trustees, American Medical Association, gave participants the opportunity to have doctors answer their burning questions about how the changing environment is—and is not—changing their perceptions around, and participation in, pharma meetings. Mike noted, “It was an honor and a pleasure to host a session where we could gain a physician’s perspective about how the changes in our compliance environment are impacting their relationships and interactions with pharma, biotech and medical device companies.”

"Pharma Forum has established itself as an industry leading event with fresh and relevant content, robust education and excellent networking opportunities. I was happy to participate and hopefully give something back to an industry I am passionate about"

Other highlights at the 12th annual Pharma Forum:

The results of the first-ever meeting planner and hospitality meal cap survey were released. A high-powered panel of hoteliers and planners analyzed the results and provided actionable ways to help move the needle on the persistent problem of planner meal caps that are not keeping pace with hoteliers’ food and beverage costs.

General session superstars, from Merrick Rosenberg, who enlightened the audience on how to use his unique theory on personality styles to facilitate more effective communication, to MGM’s Michael Dominguez, who provided an in-depth look at the economic realities of meetings and hospitality in 2016. A women’s empowerment panel also provided ways to develop an action plan for career growth, and Andy Powrie-Smith from EFPIA explained how healthcare provider meeting regulations are evolving across the pond.

35 educational sessions, many of which were approved for Certified Meeting Professional-Health Care designation credit, were available to those in attendance.
