Pharmacy OneSource Announces Free Webinar on Reduction of IV Room Waste

Changing Compounding Policies and Procedures to Cut Down on Avoidable Costs

Wolters Kluwer Health announced today that Pharmacy OneSource, software-as-a-service provider of MedBoard, a wireless, web-based medication tracking system for hospitals, is hosting a complimentary webinar with Nancy L. Rampe, PharmD, on "Reduction of IV Room Waste at St. Rita's Medical Center."

At the beginning of 2010, St. Rita's Medical Center pharmacy in Ohio was experiencing a loss of $10,000 to $12,000 monthly due to inefficiencies in some of the IV room processes. The annual impact of these inefficiencies equated to approximately $140,000 in avoidable cost to the organization. It was thought that this waste was attributed to many factors. Some of these factors included compounding medications too far in advance for patients scheduled doses, IV admixtures lost in transit to the units, high dollar medications being wasted for various reasons, and also having par levels set too high.

Rampe, Pharmacy Department Supervisor at St. Rita's Medical Center, will share her team's experiences in making changes to policies and procedures needed in order to eliminate the wasted time, supplies and costs that were being incurred within the organization.
