Philadelphia Labor and Employee Benefits Lawyer Stuart Davidson of Willig, Williams & Davidson Reappointed Vice-Chair of Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners

Law Firm Partner Stuart Davidson of Willig, Williams & Davidson is Selected for Another Term on Commonwealth's Board of Law Examiners

Philadelphia labor and employment law firm Willig, Williams & Davidson is pleased to announce that Partner Stuart W. Davidson has been appointed Chair of the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners. Davidson was appointed to the Board in 2008 and has served as Vice Chair for the last three years. The seven-member board, overseen by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, preserves the integrity of the legal profession by stressing the importance of professional responsibility and character, as well as evaluating the potential for aspiring lawyers to uphold and commit to the profession's standards.

"It is an honor to serve the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as Chair of its Board of Law Examiners," said Davidson. "The Board strives to protect the integrity of the legal system by establishing and maintaining the highest standards for bar admission in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and there is no greater honor than to be at the helm to shepherd the next generation of lawyers, cultivating professional responsibility and excellence."

As the Chair of the Board, Davidson's duties include reviewing bar admission rules, recommending rule changes, reviewing proposed exam questions and analyses, approving exam results, setting policy and handling all other bar admission obligations as charged by the Court. By carefully examining existing rules and evaluating applicants to the Bar, the Board ensures that those seeking legal representation are protected from unethical persons.

Davidson's legal career, spanning three decades, has included vigorous representation of labor unions and employee benefit plans, serving a wide range of union workers, including musicians, longshoremen, food and commercial workers, university faculty, machinists, firefighters, police officers, teamsters, football players and many others. His work for public and private-sector unions includes leading contract negotiations, presenting interest and grievance arbitrations, representing employee benefit funds and advising clients on internal union matters. Davidson has also played key roles in the development of new and progressive benefit structures with the pension, health and welfare plans he represents.

In addition to serving as chief counsel to large regional and local unions along the East and Gulf coasts, Davidson is a frequent lecturer, teacher and author on such issues as ERISA, fiduciary responsibilities, labor law, employment discrimination, OSHA matters, drug and alcohol testing and other labor and employment concerns. A dedicated member of his community, he has been a Commissioner of the Delaware River Port Authority; board member and executive committee member of the Development Corporation for Israel; member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans' Attorneys Committee; President of the American Friends of the Yitzhak Rabin Center; and a member of the Board of Trustees of The Johns Hopkins University. Davidson has also received the Jewish Labor Committee's Humanitarian Award.

A cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and The Johns Hopkins University, Davidson has been listed among the top attorneys in the field of labor and employment law by "Best Lawyers in America®" since 1995, as chosen by his peers. Since 2004, he has been consistently named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters.
