'The Voice of Stray Dogs' (www.strays.in) announces India's 1st Photo-Essay competition on the plight of stray dogs in Indian cities.

'The Voice of Stray Dogs' (www.strays.in) announces India's 1st Photo-Essay competition on the plight of stray dogs in Indian cities. 'The Voice of Stray Dogs' is a volunatary organization that focuses on gathering data, analyzing information and creating reports to form public, civic and legal opinion on the management of stray dogs.

'The Voice of Stray Dogs' announced today India's 1st photo-essay competition in association with TWB (www.twb.in). It aims to draw the attention of the young urban professional, university students and others to stray dogs that inhabit our cities and for the most part co-exist peacefully. The Photo-essay seeks to bring to fore the interlinked lives of dogs in Indian cities with the common person, scrutiny of NGO's and municipal corporations and the cruel treatment that is often meted out to stray dogs.

Contest entries should be:
Individuals or in a team of upto 3 members.
At least 2000 words (in English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telegu, Bengali, Assamese, Gujrati or Marathi) and atleast 10 original photographs need to be submitted as a photo-essay.
Last date for entries is 1st Nov 2010. All terms and conditions of the contest are listed on the www.facebook.com/strays.in

Entries will be evaluated by a world class jury that includes:
Amala Akkineni: Movie superstar, and wife of superstar Nagarjuna. A full time animal rights activist and founder of Blue Cross of Hyderabad, member of Animal Welfare Board of India. (AWBI)
Eloise Leyden: Photographer and author of "Slum Dog India" - the book contains over 150 colour photographs of the stray dogs found on virtually every street corner of the subcontinent. It came about after a year long trip through India in 2007/2008.
Dr. S. Chinny Krishna, MBA, PhD, Faculty member IIT-Chennai: co-founder of Blue Cross of India in 1959, Chairman in 2000-2010, Vice Chairman of AWBI from 2000-03 and again since 2010.
Anjali Sharma: Acclaimed Supreme Court Lawyer, animal activist, member of AWBI & SPCA. Legal representative in many animals rights court matters.
Annette Haines: Faculty at the University of Michigan, author of water colour book on stray dogs of India called "The Power of the Stray Dog"
