Photographer Climbs Mt. Kilimanjaro

Online, May 26, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Local photographer, Rance Elgin, along with a guide and two travel mates, navigated up the 19,336 feet of rugged terrain of Mount Kilimanjaro, braving the elements for 7 of the most grueling, emotional, exhausting, spiritually enlightening days of his life.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. From base to peak it is a virtual climatic tour of the elements, from blistering heat of the tropics to the sub-zero chill of the arctic.

The journey was rough, but the views were spectacular! Although from almost the very start his camera "felt like 2,000 pounds", Rance Elgin was able to capture some of the most perfect visions the world has to display. Golden sunsets, brilliant hues of plant life, strikingly beautiful exotic animals, panoramic views of the clouds below and icy white glaciers at the mountain's peak. With each click, the observer will be transported to another world. A place where, they too, have reached the top of Kilimanjaro- in their mind's eye.

On the last day, just before reaching the summit of the monstrous mountain, Rance Elgin knew "this was the beginning of the longest, hardest day of my life!"

To get through the toughest of times climbing up the mountain, Rance Elgin relied on God to get him to the top. "I realized that I couldn't do it by myself," Rance says. He said, "'Let me just meditate on You and what You've already brought me through, and I believe I'm going to get to the top!'"

During those final moments before reaching the summit, Rance knew he had done something great! "It made me feel like when I talk to my sons, and say, 'You can do anything you put your mind to' - they're probably going to believe me a little bit more now that they can say, 'My daddy climbed the tallest mountain in the world!'"
