The Phuket King's Cup Regatta will host the 2011 Phuket Dinghy Series following the success of last year's youth-orientated event. This racing series will take place over three weekends in successive months (September 17-18, October 15-16 and November 19-20). The Phuket Dinghy Series aims to promote and encourage sailing in Thailand by involving young people in the sport. The Series is supported by the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket. The opening series in September will take place at Thanoon Beach, West of Sarasin Bridge. Following events are to be held at Naiyang Beach National Park (October) and Cape Panwa 3rd Naval Area Command Centre (November).

The Phuket Dinghy Series was created by the Phuket King's Cup Regatta Organising Committee to offer an accessible means of competition for young sailors. The events actively display the sport of sailing as being welcoming to new participants, and engage a new generation of enthusiastic and talented sailors. The Phuket Dinghy Series is also open to adults sailing Lasers.

Up to 25 Optimists and 6 Lasers (Standard) are available for each event. The competition is open to sailors of any nationality, with classes to include: Optimist boys, born in 1996 or later; Optimist girls, born in 1996 or later; Laser Standard men; Laser Standard women. The entry fee per weekend event is THB500 (Optimist) and THB1,000 (Laser) with registration to take place on the Saturday of each series. There will be three races per day over the two competition days of each series. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed competitor from each class.

Santi Kanchanabandhu of the Phuket King's Cup Regatta Organising Committee, said, "This year's Phuket Dinghy Series will see returning competitors challenge new entrants in what we are sure will be a highly exciting competition. The Committee was very pleased with the level of involvement and professionalism shown during the 2010 series, and for 2011 there is a greater awareness about the Phuket Dinghy Series. It is the aim of the Committee and its associated event partners to increase and build on the level of enthusiasm which young sailors already have for the sport, and to support its ongoing development."
