PilatesSupply.Com Latest Venture for Better Health Innovations - Exercise Equipment Gurus

PilatesSupply.com, a new website from BetterHealthInnovations, the Internet's leading supplier Of exercise equipment, launched this week to an enthusiastic response from eager buyers.

The new web-site's focus is on equipment for Pilates, an exercise regime originally made popular by dancers and actresses and now a worldwide favorite. The website features Pilates equipment such as reformers, arcs and barrels along with instructional DVD's. Brands featured will include Stamina and Stott. But it doesn't end there.

'We launched Pilates Supply as an extension of our Better Health Innovations site.' Says company spokesman Jack Webster. 'We have been serving Pilates customers for years. The new site will provide customers with a very focused shopping experience where they will be able to easily compare and find the right equipment for their needs."

In addition to supplying Pilates equipment for the home user, PilatesSupply.com has a commercial section to supply the needs of over 14,000 Pilates instructors currently working in the USA.

Much of Pilates current popularity is due to Hollywood celebrities. The system was invented by Joseph Pilates, a German of Greek parentage who used his knowledge of Yoga and martial arts to create exercises designed to bring body and mind together. Unlike other exercise programs the primary purpose of Pilates is not to increase muscle mass, reduce weight or provide a cardiac workout. Instead Pilates is all about movement. Exercises are typically performed on a floor mat, but with the addition of Pilates 'props' such as the arc, barrel or rebounder, the number of possible exercises can be greatly increased, allowing for far more variety.

Pilates first studio in the USA was close to the New York Ballet and as a result the exercises became very popular with dancers and actresses. Practitioners find their balance is improved and movement in general becomes easier and more fluid. Strength and stamina are also increased, but without the need for a high impact workout.

The first modern book on Pilates was published in 1980. 'The Pilates Method of Physical and Mental Conditioning', by Philip Friedman and Gail Elsen outlined the six principles of Pilates; control, concentration, flow, center, precision and breathing.

Pilates came to the attention of the general public 1990's as the Baby Boomer generation began to retire and finally had the time to exercise, but at a time of life when gentle, low impact exercise was the most appropriate form.
Though some believed Pilates to be a fad it has withstood the test of time. There are now more than 11 million people performing Pilates exercises on a regular basis and it remains an extremely popular exercise form with many in the public eye, including actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall.

Originally practiced only in a studio, many Pilates enthusiasts now exercise at home, often on a daily basis. Pilates exercises are effective but low impact in comparison to, say, a treadmill and suitable for almost all age groups.

For those unfamiliar with the exercises, PilatesSupply.com provides a number of instructional DVD's.
