Danny Wilson, Pixelmetrix President and CEO, was among the lineup of invited speakers at the SCTE Autumn Lecture Meeting today, held at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in London. During his presentation, he introduced the key concepts behind Over-the-Top (OTT) delivery, and covered the challenges as well as the performance metrics unique to OTT TV.

According to SCTE, the European cable industry is pushing ahead with higher-speed broadband, Voice over IP, VOD, TV-on-demand, PVR and HDTV. Today's cable professionals need to be aware of a range of different issues such as standards, installation, distribution, cost, service differentiation and network monitoring challenges. These, and other topics including WiFi, will be highlighted at the event, organised by SCTE, The Society for Broadband Professionals. It also aims to offer solutions to some of the issues facing cable engineers and manufacturers today.

The SCTE stages lecture meetings several times per year in London, Duxford and in the Balkans and through its Benelux Group at selected European venues. The Society chairs the British Standards Committee for cable systems and represents the UK at European (CENELEC) and world (IEC) levels. Founded in 1945, the SCTE is a Learned Society and non-profit making organisation whose aim is to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. The Society particularly concerns itself with the training and career advancement of technical professionals in this field.

Wilson frequently speaks at telecommunication industry-focused conferences as well as educational conventions worldwide. He is currently a member of the IPTV workgroup in Singapore, and was the Editor for the Performance Monitoring/Quality of Service workgroup of the ITU-T/IPTV-FG.
