PODS Houston & Ace Hardware Team Up To Turn House Into A Home For Local Veteran, Lance Corporal Daniel Peterson

In support of Homes for Our Troops, cash and housewarming gift donations to be collected for severely injured Houston veteran, June 1-15

Severely injured Houston veteran, Lance Corporal Daniel Peterson will soon move into a new specially adapted home with the help of Homes for Our Troops. Three Houston businesses, PODS® Houston, Ace Hardware and the radio station Sunny 99.1 FM, have joined forces to support Homes for Our Troops and help transform Lance Corporal Peterson's new house into a home.

From June 1 - 15, cash donations to go toward LCpl. Peterson's home building expenses will be collected at eight participating Houston-area Ace Hardware stores. On Saturday, June 9, a PODS® container will be placed at the Ace, 9001 Spring Cypress Road in Spring, Texas, and from noon - 2 p.m., the public is encouraged to stop by and help fill it with additional donations of gift baskets, gift cards and new, small household items.

Peterson, a U.S. Marine who in 2010 lost both his legs during his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, will soon be awarded with a brand new handicapped accessible home in Tomball, Texas by Homes for Our Troops. Homes for Our Troops is a non-profit organization dedicated to building specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans and since 2004, has dedicated more than 100 homes for combat veterans injured post 9/11.

"Homes for Our Troops appreciates the fundraising efforts of PODS, Ace Hardware of Champions and Sunny 99.1 FM. Because of the support from patriotic companies across the nation, we are able to restore freedom and independence back to our severely injured veterans through the gift of a specially adapted home." SMA (USA, Ret) Ken Preston, president and director of Homes for Our Troops.

At an upcoming key ceremony, Lance Corporal Peterson will officially take ownership of his new home and be presented with the donated housewarming gifts. Following the ceremony, the public will be invited to tour the home.

"We are honored to do our small part to give back to Lance Corporal Peterson, a man who has sacrificed so much for our country," said Phil Dvorak with PODS of Houston. "With the help of our community, we will raise the funds needed for the final construction phase and also help fill his new house with essential items to make it feel more like home."
