Poltergeist Star Directs $2,000 Budget Dark Romantic Feature Film
Oliver Robins, best known for his starring role in Poltergeist, directs "29000 Wishes 1 Regret," a dark romantic feature film produced for $2,000, to be released by Echelon Studios Summer 2012.
Online, March 19, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Oliver Robins, best known for his starring role in Poltergeist, directs "29000 Wishes 1 Regret," a dark romantic feature film about a twenty-something couple who lose everything in the recession and decide to make a suicide pact: They will max out their credit cards and live life with reckless abandon before killing themselves.
When Kevin and Jennifer are besieged by the hardships of a financial meltdown, they make the decision to have one last hurrah by maxing out their credit cards and then killing themselves.
Our couple Kevin and Jennifer are shallow, imperfect people laced with flaws. Jennifer can be a controlling, rigid know-it-all, and Kevin hides behind a facade of humor, never able to share his true feelings to his wife. It was easy for them to be happy when they had material wealth and promising careers. When they lose everything, they are forced to reconcile their differences and rely on each other for support.
"The inspiration for the film came from watching friends gravely affected by the financial meltdown gripping the world," explains Robins, who also wrote the film's screenplay.
The feature was shot over a period of two months on weekends on a budget of under two thousand dollars in the Los Angeles and Las Vegas areas with a cast of two on the DSLR Cannon cameras. The crew consisted of three: a sound operator, a director of photography, and a director. Robins periodically would also perform the duties of cinematographer and production mixer while directing the production.
Unable to locate financing for the production, Robins funded the film on credit cards. "I knew it was important this story be told about multiple generations who lost jobs and the ability to build a future," says Robins.
The film stars Justus Zimmerman and Casey Ruggieri as the twenty something couple, Kevin and Jennifer Alpern who descend into a life of conspicuous consumption, albeit short lived.
Robins, a graduate of USC Film School, also wrote Hallmark Channel's highest rated June premiere, "You've Got A Friend."
The film will be released worldwide by distributor Echelon Studios, (www.echelonstudios.us) in Summer 2012.
