Poor Posture Is An Epidemic In The USA. Why It's Only Getting Worse...

From the old man stooping over while reading a newspaper on the park bench, to the businessman sitting in his car for hours a day in rush hour traffic, to the young lady hunched over her cell phone texting vigorously. It seems that everyone has some form of postural issue which can lead to a multitude of health problems including low back pain, neck pain, joint pain and chronic fatigue. In fact, it has been estimated by that 80% of all the back pain in this country is due to poor posture. On top of health ailments, poor posture can makes otherwise healthy people look tired, haggard, frumpy and years older than they really are. For example, the first thing a young actor of actress does to portray an old person is to hunch their posture. Poor posture is not just limited to old people, it affects teenagers too. Bad posture, pain and suffering has become an epidemic among all generations and it has a simple cause.
The real culprit is modern technology. There are many things Americans do on a daily basis that contribute to poor posture. Here's a short list: driving, watching TV, carrying heavy backpacks, surfing the internet, texting/talking on a cell phone, workstations, etc. All of these activities teach the body to slouch forward and migrate the spine forward over time. It seems that many of the modern conveniences that are meant to make life easier are actually ruining postures and, due to the extra pain and discomfort, are actually making life harder.
The conveniences of modern life aren't going anywhere, which means poor posture is here to stay.
