"Pot of Gold for Children" Helps Fund Hope

The Center for Child & Family Health collects more than $21,000 in gold buy-back program...

The Center for Child and Family Health (CCFH) raised more than $21,000 in a fundraising effort with Triangle area business, National Pawn. CCFH collected gold and silver in their inaugural, "Pot of Gold for Children" campaign. National Pawn contributed a $10,000 matching gift, in addition to redeeming $11,000 of gold and silver.

"We love National Pawn and Bob Moulton who saw a need and wanted to do something transforming to help children and families in Durham overcome hardships," said Eileen Watts Welch, executive director for advancement at CCFH. "Bob was introduced to us by one of our CCFH Leadership Council members who has done business with him and knows him as one of the fairest minded and most concerned merchants in Durham."

CCFH provides mental health services and training to prevent and treat the effects of trauma on children and families. The money raised will be used to help defray the cost of treating vulnerable children and families who otherwise would not be able to access high quality, scientifically based care. With a commitment to ensuring that all children receive the best forms of treatment available, CCHF must raise approximately $500,000 annually to sustain its work. An investment of approximately $5,000 in the future of a child and family receiving care through CCFH can provide a full course of mental health assessment, treatment, and collaboration with others in their lives.

"I am happy to be able to help such a deserving and necessary organization such as the CCFH," said Bob Moulton, president of National Pawn. "I know the funds from this project will make a big difference and will be well spent." Dr. Robert Murphy, Executive Director, noted, "Bob is exactly the kind of civic-minded, compassionate business leader who we need to help Durham's children succeed in their lives."

The largest single contribution of gold was worth $4,000, and was donated in the memory of a board member's mother. This was the first "Pot of Gold for Children" effort. Members of the CCFH staff, leadership council and the board of directors contributed to the effort. A second, larger public campaign is being planned.

About CCFH
Since 1996, the Center for Child & Family Health (CCFH) has provided evidence-based prevention, mental health services and training to prevent and treat the effects of trauma on children and families. CCFH impacts nearly 3,000 children each year through its diverse portfolio of programs and thousands more through its education of community professionals and parents. The most pressing need is for funding to offset the gaps in revenue from the services provided to families in need.
