Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd University (PMU) Supporting the Vision of the Visually Impaired

Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University is set to Embark on the Exciting Journey of Visually Impaired Education. Prior to launching the Prince Sultan College for the Visually Impaired (PSCVI) at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU), the University announced that it would conduct a pilot program admitting its first cohort of visually impaired students. In the Fall of 2019, PMU will enroll local and international students in academic programs specifically converted to meet the visually impaired students' needs.

This step comes as a measure to ensure that PMU possesses the adequate experience and resources in 2020 when the Prince Sultan College for the Visually Impaired is expected to open its doors to the public officially.

The 2019 cohort of visually impaired students will consist of 40 male and female students and are on a scholarship program until graduation.

Admissions start in the Spring and involve a thorough assessment process to evaluate the type of impairment and other health issues of the applicants. The admissions assessment is designed to better define the classroom needs, the training and counseling needs, as well as the assistive technologies required to run the program.

The Prince Sultan College for the Visually Impaired will start stronger based on the continuous progress reports analyzing the outcomes of the pilot program of 2019. The College is established to provide learning and training opportunities for the visually impaired and prepare them for college education and employability in the workplace.

PMU is currently in the process of providing the resources necessary. This includes the recruitment of qualified personnel, full accessibility of the campus, and advanced technologies to facilitate the VI college experience.
