Project Economy to Drive India's Growth Story
Online, December 9, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Project Management Institute (PMI), India organised Research and Academic Conference under the theme "Getting India ready in a Project Driven Economy - Role of Academia."The 2-day conference hosted by NICMAR, Pune is an initiative to take project management learning and skill development ahead. Dr. Kamal Sharma MD Lupin Ltd. was the Chief Guest, while Mr. K.B.Dixit, Executive Director (Engineering & Procurement), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) was the distinguished Guest of Honour at the conference .
Speaking at the conference, Dr. Kamal Sharma stressed on the importance of project management in the current scenario for a growing economy like India which has a long way develop ahead. He commented on how the drivers of the economy have evolved from being Product-based to being Process-based, and voiced concern on shortage of qualified project managers in India. In this regard, he stressed on the need to internationalize learning, and humanise the curriculum to impart all-round soft skills to the professional.
Mr. K. B. Dixit opined that project management was an effective tool to manage and develop any kind of infrastructure that is needed to meet the growing needs to our economy across sectors be it Power, Roads, Ports, IT among others, and thus there was a need to give it due importance in the academic curriculum.
PMI Academic Awards-Dr. Mangesh Korgaonker received the PMI India Distinguished Fellow Award for his exceptional and outstanding leadership-level contribution in the field of education, training, research, consultancy, institution-building, industry-institute linkages, advocacy etc, along with a citation and cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh.
Dr. K. N. Satyanarayana and Professor V. Nagadevara were awarded the PMI India Distinguished Scholar Award for their highly noteworthy contribution to PM education training, research and consultancy. They were also given a citation and cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh each.
