Businesses should prepare for half of their staff to take time off with swine flu for up to four weeks this winter, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
New guidance issued by the CIPD and the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) warns that absence rates will soar during the second wave of the highly contagious flu.
The prediction that half the working population could be absent at the same time is far above the Government's guidance that sickness rates could reach 12 percent, but both organisations said companies ought to prepare for the worst.
Researchers have found that 57 percent of employers have no contingency plans for dealing with a swine flu pandemic. Ben Willmott, a senior public policy adviser at the CIPD, said the significant risk to businesses has not subsided.
Lancashire based Mister Sterile are focusing their efforts on helping businesses through the Swine Flu outbreak with the release of a number of unique products. Such as Room Foggers and the World's First Dry on Contact Spray
Why are we unique
'Why is all the emphasis on cleaning hands and not on the things that they touch? Our products treat both sides of this equation and break the cycle of transmission. They kill germs, including H1N1, on your hands and on the surfaces that your hands touch. Washing your hands is not enough. Once clean hands touch a surface that is contaminated with H1N1 or similar they become re-contaminated. Our sprays and room foggers kill H1N1 and other germs on those surfaces. They are unique because they dry on contact and can kill germs on ALL surfaces including electronics devices, fabrics and paper. SaniGuard sprays & foggers are the only dry on contact disinfectant in the world. A bold but true claim and we have the test data to prove it.'
What's the big deal about a dry on contact disinfectant?
If you read the small print on the back of more commonly known disinfectants it says 'allow to air dry' but people rarely do. The temptation to wipe dry a wet surface is great-especially as that surface can remain wet for up to 10 minutes. And what do people wipe the surface with? Generally, a dirty cloth that remains full of viruses & bacteria.
What the manufacturer does not tell you is that until the disinfectant dries on the surface it is not fully effective. And talking of fully effective, SaniGuard is tested to European standard EN14476 & proven to kill H1N1 whilst regular disinfectants may not be tested to such a high standard.
Finally, being dry on contact SaniGuard can be used on absolutely any surface. Fabrics, paper & electronic devices such as telephones, TV remotes & computer keyboards. '
