Protenus' Robert Lord Selected as Speaker for HIMSS17

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has named Protenus co-founder and CEO Robert Lord as a speaker at the 2017 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, which will be held from Sunday, Feb. 19 to Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Lord, a member of the Maryland chapter of HIMSS, and Dr. Peter Greene, CMIO at Johns Hopkins Medicine, will present “Transforming a Privacy Program with Advanced Data Analytics” on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 8:30am. The session will describe how Johns Hopkins Hospital eradicated insider threats, eliminated false positives and created a robust security posture.

I greatly look forward to my presentation with Robert at HIMSS. Our leading-edge efforts to protect patient privacy at Johns Hopkins have transformed the way that we think about and implement health data security. Through elevating patient privacy to a strategic initiative at the highest levels of our organization, we continue to maintain the sacred trust between patient and provider that is a foundational principle at Johns Hopkins.

“Current rule-based analytical systems often overburden privacy officers with alerts and are only a minor improvement from manual detection methods. Johns Hopkins identified this challenge and looked for new, data-driven approaches to transforming their privacy posture,” said Robert Lord of Protenus. “At this session, C-suite executives and privacy professionals alike can learn how Hopkins implemented a clinically-aware security program to bring together hospital assets, data, and leadership to better protect their patient data.”

The vision of improving health and healthcare with information technology has been the focus of HIMSS since its establishment in 1961. As a global voice, convener and thought leader, HIMSS advises stakeholders on IT best practices to improve the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of health and healthcare.

“I greatly look forward to my presentation with Robert at HIMSS.  Our leading-edge efforts to protect patient privacy at Johns Hopkins have transformed the way that we think about and implement health data security.  Through elevating patient privacy to a strategic initiative at the highest levels of our organization, we continue to maintain the sacred trust between patient and provider that is a foundational principle at Johns Hopkins,” said Peter Greene, MD, CMIO for Johns Hopkins Medicine.

The HIMSS Annual Conference Education Committee (ACEC), chaired by Thompson H. Boyd, III, MD, FACHE, CHCQM, CPHIM, CPHM, CPHIMS, physician liaison, Hahnemann University Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA., selected the more than 200 educational sessions that will be presented at the conference.

Proposals under review by the ACEC have gone through a peer-review selection process for enhanced efficiency and quality in selection of the educational offerings at the conference. This committee, composed of 14 appointed HIMSS volunteers from across all member constituencies, reviews and selects all presentations with those representing an organization or non-commercial interest given preference, a guideline followed to achieve continuing medical education or CME requirements.

“HIMSS is recognized for its quality and relevant programming. At HIMSS17, we will have more than 300 speakers share their expertise during our pre-conference and conference educational sessions,” said JoAnn W. Klinedinst, MEd, CPHIMS, PMP, FHIMSS, vice president, professional development, for HIMSS. “I congratulate the presenters who will be part of our extensive and diverse programming schedule for HIMSS17.”
