Punchbowl.org Opens Nonprofit Grant Application Process

New grant opportunity available for nonprofit organizations that aim to eliminate unwanted and obsolete paper and paper-products.

Punchbowl.org Environmental Fund, Inc. (Punchbowl.org) today opened their grant application process for projects that aim to reduce the harmful impact of wasteful paper production. The new grant opportunity is available for nonprofit organizations that help support the Punchbowl.org mission to eliminate unwanted and obsolete paper and paper-products.

Every year, companies produce millions of tons of paper for products that consumers no longer want or need (for example, 650K tons of paper is wasted every year to produce phone books). Punchbowl.org exists to help educate people about the harmful environmental impact of this practice, offer solutions to reduce consumption, and significantly decrease the production of wasteful paper products.

“We think it's wasteful for companies to produce paper products that are put directly in the trash or recycling,” said Stephanie Fader, Executive Director, Punchbowl.org. “We’re excited to provide funding to organizations that have practical, compelling ideas to address this issue.”

The ideal grant candidates are nonprofit organizations that do one or more of the following:

  • Identify and explore sustainable alternatives to paper-based products
  • Develop and promote legislation to reduce paper waste and the production of wasteful paper products (i.e. phone books, junk mail)
  • Create programs to educate consumers about responsible waste management and sustainable alternatives to wasteful paper products

The main source of funding for Punchbowl.org comes from Punchbowl, Inc., the company behind the online invitations site Punchbowl.com. The charitable initiative enables the company to leverage the digital platform they have built to positively help the environment.

Grants awarded will range from $500 – $5,000. Punchbowl.org will accept grant applications through Friday, March 10, 2017. Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status to be eligible to apply. Grant application information is available online.
