QStar Becomes a Hitachi Data Systems Certified Technology Partner

QStar creates a 3-2-1 Archive with Hitachi Content Platform for Enterprise and Healthcare Markets

Mary Esther, Florida -June 07, 2010-QStar Technologies, Inc., a global leader in archiving, data protection and compliance solutions announced today that it has received Certified Technology Partner status from Hitachi Data Systems. QStar software runs on most server platforms including; Windows, Linux, UNIX and Mac and provides a flexible CIFS / NFS gateway to the Hitachi Content Platform. The Hitachi Content Platform can now be part of a 3-2-1 archive, as all data can be replicated to a second or third archive device, such as the Hitachi NAS Platform and/or tape library, locally or remotely, offering additional levels of data security and disaster prevention.

Endorsed by leading industry analysts, the 3-2-1 Archiving and Data Protection Best Practices provides a proven framework that calls for 3 copies of all critical data, archived on 2 different storage technologies, with 1 copy offsite on removable media. This multi-tier archive approach offers highly reliable physical system resilience by managing valuable data on multiple storage technologies across multiple locations. At the same time, the 3-2-1 approach allows organizations to optimize expensive storage resources, while retaining archive data in a very flexible and cost effective environment.

3-2-1 Archiving can be used by customers in all industries including financial services, government, telecommunications, utilities and manufacturing. Using QStar's Data Director HSM or SntrySTR, an integrated archive server, organizations can tailor archiving solutions by blending storage technologies. In healthcare environments, QStar's SntryDICOM server offers archiving using DICOM standards, avoiding proprietary PACS archive formats. DICOM archives have the ability to support multiple PACS solutions concurrently and seamlessly use Hitachi Content Platform in any healthcare environment.

"QStar is pleased to have qualified as a Certified Technology Partner with Hitachi Data Systems. The synergy between the two companies' technologies offers increased value and benefits to our mutual customers," said Riccardo Finotti, CEO and president of QStar Technologies. "Together, the Hitachi Content Platform and QStar enable a secure and flexible 3-2-1 archive strategy."

The Hitachi Content Platform is a multi-purpose, distributed storage solution that addresses many challenges in the growth of unstructured data. An intelligent, content-based system, it supports multiple tiers of storage for a wide range of unstructured content, all in a single platform, by providing a number of important capabilities, including object versioning, retention and disposition services, encryption, immutability, high availability and search in a single cluster that supports up to 40 petabytes of data. QStar offers a suite of data management and archiving software that provides tiered and virtualized storage solutions. Replication and mirroring of archive data between storage devices provides a flexible, robust and lower-cost solution. Storage virtualization is used to create active archives from tape libraries, extending the file system onto removable media.

"The combined solution created by this collaboration between Hitachi Data Systems and QStar provides additional options to our Hitachi Content Platform customers who are looking to archive content particularly at multiple remote locations," said Mike Walkey, senior vice president, Global Channels, Hitachi Data Systems.
