Online, January 15, 2014 (Newswire.com) - New research published by Gocompare.com has revealed more than one quarter of all households in the UK could be spending ten per cent or more of their monthly income on simply heating their homes.
The study revealed 28 per cent of 2,000 respondents spend more than ten per cent of their after-tax earnings on energy costs, with six per cent forking out over 20 per cent of their income on this essential expenditure.
Overall, 32 per cent spend between one and five per cent of monthly income in this area, while 36 per cent spend between five and ten per cent.
Jeremy Cryer, energy spokesperson for Gocompare.com, commented: "It's shocking to think that so many people could be paying out up to a fifth of their after-tax earnings just to keep their heating and lighting on."
As a result, it is important all property owners have the best energy-saving measures in place; with installing additional loft and cavity wall insulation some of the best methods for cutting excess heating bills.
