Online, December 29, 2010 (Newswire.com) - As part of an ongoing effort to support smoking cessation and cancer research, Quit Tea LLC has made donations in undisclosed amounts to ten non-profit organizations. The list of organizations includes: Action on Smoking and Health, American Lung Association, Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, Lung Cancer Alliance, The Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation, The National Center on Addiction And Substance Abuse at Columbia University, National, Lung Cancer Partnership, Prevent Cancer Foundation, and Foundation for the National Institute of Health.
These organizations were selected based on a specific set of criteria. To be considered for donations the organization must be involved in smoking cessation or cancer research (lung cancer preferred), have a high efficiency rating, and a concrete plan or track record for preventing tobacco addiction or lung cancer. Preference was given if the organization's action plan involved research into any type of alternative medicines or was directly involved in providing information to the public. Quit Tea LLC looked for smaller organizations where ongoing involvement and donations would have a greater impact.
These donations were part of Quit Tea LLC's mission to end tobacco dependence. The company has pledged 10% of its profits each year to go to smoking cessation and cancer research. Although Quit Tea was not profitable in 2010, its first full year in operation, its president Matthew Bucklin decided the company needed to honors its mission by making year end donations regardless.
