In this research, the outstanding role performed by BI applications for the right running of the Spanish health system is deeply emphasized. Among these BI systems, there is Quiterian DDWeb, the BI platform based on advanced and predictive analytics techniques that, according to the research, "enables its users to make unpredicted consultations aimed at the research process interactively and offering an immediate response."
While the population pyramid is reversing and life expectancy increasing, a health system which is currently being reestructured must respond to the citizenship's ever-changing needs and requirements with agility and effectiveness. According to the research State of the Art: e-Health and e-Inclusion, led by the Andalusian Regional Government and by SANDETEL (among other collaborating institutions), these new challenges gather an interesting development: from medicine targeted at delivering services, to the concept "patient focus care", where the patient is placed in the centre of the health system. These challenges necessarily imply to invest in information and communication technologies (ICT) and, especially, in Business Intelligence (BI) systems, on which healthcare services must base themselves in order to ensure a top-quality services delivering within the framework of a sustainable model.
The implementation of Business Intelligence systems in current health sector is meaningful and one of the key factors for the consolidation of the Spanish e-Health model, which occupies one of the first positions in the worldwide ranking, as the research corroborates. Its application in miscellaneous fields within the health sector, such as pharmacy, HR, research and development, hospital management or corporate health management, has provided a wider and deeper understanding of the health model and of its users, and has considerably improved and speeded up the decisions making and all business processes.
Among the BI applications used by the Spanish health services, there is Quiterian DDWeb, based on user-friendly and fast advanced and predictive analytics techniques for analysts and non-technical staff. Quiterian "enables its users to manage data agily and easily", according to the research. And, additionally, "it allows any user to make unpredicted consultations aimed at the research process interactively and offering an immediate answer." Its engineering and advanced analytics techniques make it possible to audit, clean and enrich clinical, healthcare and demographical data, which can be crossed and analyzed together, regardless of their origin."
Quiterian's customers operating in the public and private health sector, stand out some of the advanced analysis that have brought value into the service and into their business: identifying risks, errors and pathological patterns; efficiency in preventive or blood donation campaigns; resources and needs foreseeing; epidemiology analysis; discovery of saving sources; analysis of the impact caused by a medical treatments on a certain population segment; monitoring of patients' files, of clinical appointments, of stock lists, etc.
As the research points out, within a health system in which the patient is placed in the centre, without any doubt Business Intelligence tools have much to bring in terms of efficiency, agility and effectiveness.
