Raised Real and Second Harvest Collaborate to Tackle Childhood Food Insecurity

Raised Real Baby Food

Raised Real, the subscription-based, nationwide baby food delivery service, has partnered with Second Harvest (Food Bank of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties) to help alleviate childhood food insecurity in San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties. Raised Real partnered with Second Harvest to donate 500 meal makers that steam and blend and 500 packets of organically sourced, nutrition dense Raised Real baby meals.

According to new data, almost 1 in 5 kids in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties faces food insecurity. As a company committed to supporting parents in feeding their children nutritionally dense, easy to make baby food, Raised Real wanted to offer both meals and a way to make meal time easier for parents. “At Raised Real, ready to make baby food is shipped nationwide to help parents provide fresh, healthy baby food for their tiny humans,” says Steven Kontz, CFO and co-founder of Raised Real. “We wanted to help alleviate food insecurity for households with children.”

In March, as part of their commitment to fresh, healthy meals that parents can make at home, Raised Real donated 500 machines that steam and blend food, accompanied by 500 meal packets of organically sourced, healthy ingredients. The meal packets can be pureed for babies or used as finger foods and sides for children that are beyond the puree stage.

“At Second Harvest, we believe in providing not just food, but finding ways to make access to healthy food easier for families. When Raised Real reached out to us through our partners at Feeding America, we were thrilled,” says Rudy Valencia, Director of Operations for Second Harvest Food Bank.

Second Harvest currently provides food to an average of over 257,000 people every month, including nearly 89,000 children and 57,000 seniors. Based on the findings of our Food Insecurity Study, this leaves a gap of about 450,000 Central Valley residents who are struggling to put food on the table. This collaboration is part of the dramatic steps Second Harvest is taking to connect more people with food and bridge this gap.
