Rare footage of top band 30 Seconds to Mars surfaces on YouTube - was recorded for now defunct Croatian TV station in 2009. Footage is live performance of controversial hit "Hurricane" from the album "This is War" and features alternative lyrics.
Online, January 10, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Rare footage of the american rock band 30 Seconds to Mars has today emerged on YouTube. The band, fronted by Hollywood star Jared Leto and known for the remarkable loyalty shown by its fans, has recently set a Guinness Record for the longest tour in support of a single album.
The footage consists of a live studio performance of the band's hit single "Hurricane" and dates from early 2009. The footage was shot for a now defunct Croatian TV channel and was recorded by accident by a viewer when it was broadcast in an obscure timeslot.
What makes the footage so rare is that the lyrics are completely different from the album version of the track and they appear to be an early work in progress draft which was later shelved in favour of the version released on the album. The footage is sure to fire the imaginations of the band's worldwide fan base and will doubtless boost the profile of the band itself as it enters 2012 off the back of a hugely successful 2011.
Production values are very poor and at times dubbing and camera work are extremely amatuerish however the video is - and will remain - an important snapshot of frontman and main songwriter Jared Leto's processes when it comes to creating and crafting his songs. We understand the featured version of the song to be a work in progress which was later fine tuned and became the version included on the album "This Is War" with completely different lyrics.
The track "Hurricane" caused a storm of controversy when released as a single due to the content of it's explicit music video. The video was banned by practically every music video broadcaster and even the post watershed abridged version saw heavy editing.
