Raw Food Cave Man Diet Back on Menu Thanks to Technology

While eating raw might seem as simple as grabbing produce straight from the ground, raw foodists still want creativity in their diet and so have embraced modern technology to concoct everything from raw dehydrated flax crackers and kale chips.

It's taken thousands of years, but eating raw food is back on the menu thanks to modern appliances such as an Excalibur dehydrator that make it simple to whip up nutrient-dense raw meals at home.

A raw food diet is centred on eating raw whole foods that have not been heated above 49 degrees Celsius, a process that raw foodists say destroys many of the nutrients and enzymes that are beneficial for health and digestion.

While eating raw might seem as simple as grabbing produce straight from the ground, raw foodists still want creativity in their diet and so have embraced modern technology to concoct everything from raw dehydrated flax crackers and kale chips to coconut milk ice cream and raw birthday cakes.

Australian whole living retailer, Biome Eco Stores has seen sales of raw foodstuffs and appliances double in the past 12 months, according to manager Shionagh Goold.
Ms Goold said "not only are pioneering raw food ranges such as Loving Earth growing in popularity, people are learning how easy it can be to make your own raw foods. The internet is incredibly effective for knowledge sharing and it has incubated a boom in raw food and whole living blogs and interest groups."

"It's ironic that what is essentially a cave man diet is experiencing a resurgence thanks to modern technology like the internet and appliances such as quality food dehydrators and a cold press juicer."

Ms Goold said "eating dehydrated foods is popular amongst raw foodies as removing the moisture preserves the enzymes and amino-acids that our bodies need to make protein."
"Traditionally dehydrated foods have been expensive so the chance to do your own food drying at home means Excalibur food dehydrators have become popular."

According to Ms Goold most packaged juices are pasteurised at high temperatures which made is hassle for people following a raw food diet to buy drinks on the go. "Cold press juicers are designed to compress the fruit, ensuring a higher yield of juice that is a better tasting, more nutritious and healthier juice," Ms Goold said.
