Real Time Online Discussions Help Us All Become Better Citizens

For generations, we have been stuck letting the "experts" tell us what is going on in the world. Thanks to social media platforms that host real time discussions, we can now discover the truth for ourselves.

In previous generations, whenever there was an important "newsworthy" event, the only way people ever knew about it was through someone else's interpretation of it. Even if it was a live event that they were watching or listening to, any questions they had about it could only be answered by the other people in the room or a friend at the other end of the phone. Any information that they subsequently received about it came from supposedly objective news sources. Surely, there had to be a better way to learn the truth about the politics of such an event.

One of the greatest examples of such an event is the annual State of the Union address. Offered each year to a combined Senate and House of Representatives, as well as the nation via television, the President of the United States tells his story of what has happened and what is going to happen. This has become such a traditional event that for many years it has been followed by an "official rebuttal" offered by a high-ranking member of the opposition party. For years, that was it: a speech, a rebuttal, and then whatever your news source of choice had to say about it.

Tawkers.com has changed all of that. As a real-time open forum social media site dedicated to hosting events that everyone can join in and ask questions to learn more about whatever that specific "tawk" is about, they enable every one of us to further our own knowledge on our own terms. That is why for this year's State of the Union address, they created the State of the Union: Live Tawk w/Lee Camp & Eleanor Goldfield. Both regarded as two of the leading experts when it comes to all things political domestically, they helped to host an open forum where people with a passion for politics could discuss, in real time, what the President was talking about and the implications it would have for future events.

The world is changing rapidly these days and both how and who we interact with are changing with it. What used to be a weekly discussion around the water cooler is now an every-minute conversation happening with people from all around the world. Social media sites help to make us a stronger and smarter people, and that will help us make a better tomorrow.
