Online, April 16, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Rebel Films, fresh off of their award-winning turn at The Indie Fest, announce their latest win: Best Action Film at the 2014 Independent Filmmakers Showcase (IFS Film Festival)for AVENGE. Other honorees include Lars von Tier and James Franco.
Writer/Director Gregory Christian said, "It is an honor to receive this award from The Independent Filmmakers Showcase on behalf of all the cast and crew members, without whom, none of this would have been possible." Rebel Films released the DVD on April 2, 2014.
The film is a crime story, featuring Elizabethan dialogue, in a modern-day setting (New York's famed Little Italy district). The screenplay by director Gregory Christian weaves together five of William Shakespeare's most famous plays (Hamlet, The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and King Lear) into a brand-new tale of mafia love and revenge. The film holds the distinction of being the first Shakespearean "collage" since Orson Welles' acclaimed "Chimes at Midnight" from 1965. The movie features 1980's soap star Mark Arnold (Teen Wolf, One Life to Live, Santa Barbara) and the daughter of television icon June Lockhart (Lassie, Lost in Space, Petticoat Junction), Anne Lockhart (Lieutenant Sheeba on the original Battlestar Galactica). "Avenge" is a Rebel Films' production and can be purchased directly from Amazon, Create Space, Ebay, or Paypal.
Rebel Films has been in film production since 2004. Their debut feature, Cowboy Junction, is featured at the Margaret Herrick Libraty at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Currently, they are in production on an animated short (Tamar).
