Rec.fm Makes Online Shopping Charitable This Holiday Season

Recommendation Platform Makes It Easy to Create Significant Donations to Charity While Shopping Through December 31st

New fundraising platform Rec.fm (http://rec.fm), today announced a special holiday promotion that doubles the amount of money consumers can earn for their favorite charities. Rec.fm normally gives 51% of its site earnings to charity, but now through December 31st, 100% of revenue generated by Rec.fm will go to its non-profit partners which include the American Red Cross, Water.org, the American Foundation for Children with AIDS, Kiva and the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

Rec.fm surfaces a new source of revenue for charitable organizations: product recommendations. Rec.fm users recommend products on behalf of a charity of their choice and share those recommendations on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. When recommended products are purchased, a significant portion of the proceeds go to the selected non-profit or charity.

Rec.fm's promotion provides that through December 31st, on average, 5 to 20 percent of the total retail value of all purchases made via their site or Rec.fm Facebook application will be donated to non-profits. Given planned expenditures of approximately $700., every household - without spending one extra dime - could raise $100 or more for charity by making their normal gift purchases via Rec.fm.

"Social network users alone spend over $150 billion annually in online purchases." said Rec.fm President, John Appler, " Technology now makes it easy to contribute a significant portion of that spend to charity. Rec.fm is offering 100% of our revenue this season to get consumers into the habit of "voting with their MasterCard" to help great causes as they shop"

Consumers who receive product recommendations or shop directly using Rec.fm ultimately complete their purchases on partner sites like Amazon.com, Apple iTunes or Shopping.com. In so doing, they receive the same great prices and services they do as when they go directly to such sites.

Furthermore, unlike writing a donation check, consumers enjoy the fun and novelty of recommending products they love, tagging them with personal messages and competing to win prizes through Rec.fm. The site gives away Amazon Gift Cards, T-shirts, iPads and other prizes to reward shoppers who help charity.

"Thank you for turning product recommendations into a way to help fight cancer" said Erin Stewart Chen, Director of Marketing and Communications for The National Foundation for Cancer Research.
