Recipe Websites Fall Short on the Real Food Front
Community recipe websites offer thousands of recipes for home cooks, unfortunately many contain less than adequate ingredients for those who follow traditional real food diets and seek to eat nutrient-dense foods.
Online, October 3, 2011 (Newswire.com) - A quick search on the internet reveals dozens of recipe sharing websites offering thousands of recipes to peruse. Unfortunately, many of the recipes fail to meet the requirements for following a traditional real food diet as many include ingredients like all-purpose flour, white sugar and often processed boxed or prepared ingredients.
The Traditional Foods diet is largely founded on the research of Dr. Weston A. Price and promoted through such educational cookbooks as Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon Morell, President of the Weston A. Price Foundation. The diet encourages the use of humanely-raised, organic, unrefined, whole ingredients that are properly prepared to encourage nutrient availability.
In a response to this lack, Jami Delgado, homemaker and real food advocate, revealed EatNourishing.com today, a website for home cooks and Real Food bloggers to share traditional real food recipes.
"It is difficult enough to switch from a SAD diet (Standard American Diet) to a traditional foods diet without having to scour the internet for quality recipes that meet our expectations. I don't have time to go to one end of the internet and back just to figure out what's for dinner. We need to make it easy for people to find and use nutrient-dense recipes. We hope Eat Nourishing will become the AllRecipes.com to the real food community," explained Delgado.
"There is a huge need for [Eat Nourishing], so I am expecting big success!" claimed Molly Chester, author of Organic Spark, a traditional foods blog, and The Traditional Foods Cookbook, set to release in January 2012.
Elizabeth Walling, author of the popular blog, The Nourished Life, which focuses on real food and healthy living asserted, "[Eat Nourishing] is desperately needed in a world of recipes that call for Cool Whip and margarine!"
"[It is] so wonderful to have a recipe site for real food recipes. [Eat Nourishing is a] resource that I can recommend to anyone looking to cook delicious and healthy meals for their family," said Donna Schwenk, author of the cookbook dedicated to making probiotic foods at home, Cultured Food Life.
Eat Nourishing is a free community recipe sharing site specifically designed with real traditional food diets in mind. Users are able to search through the usual course categories along with additional categories like "Lacto-fermented Fruits and Vegetables." The site also offers tailored filtering options for specific dietary needs and areas that may require additional ideas like "Kid-Friendly" or "Packed Lunches." When a user finds a recipe they want to save, they are able to add it to their personal Recipe Box for later retrieval when they need it. Only recipes that meet traditional food qualifications are published.
