Red Songbird Foundation Presents First-Ever 'Jason Davis Scholarship' at Race to Erase MS Event Today

THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL PROVIDE ONE INDIVIDUAL WITH A FULL TREATMENT PROGRAM THAT ADDRESSES HIS OR HER MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION OR SUBSTANCE ABUSE NEEDS

Today, Red Songbird Foundation (RSF) will be presenting the first-ever, Jason Davis Scholarship at Nancy Davis’s highly respected annual Race to Erase MS event in Los Angeles. This award will go to a much needing and deserving individual who is struggling with MS in conjunction with substance use disorder or extreme depression.

The RSF proudly presents this award on behalf of Jason Davis, whose energy was electric, heart was loving, but most of all, had a desire to help all people heal from tough life challenges, especially for those less fortunate.

Similar to The Red Songbird Foundation’s mission, Jason wanted to bridge the gap between individuals and the help they needed. With the support of Race To Erase MS, RSF wants to honor Jason by awarding one individual a full treatment program that addresses his or her mental health and addiction or substance abuse needs.

Applications will be accepted Sept. 5 until Sept. 20. Only applications on behalf of the candidate themselves will be accepted (no nominations). To enter please visit RedSongBird.org.

“We are incredibly grateful to be able to honor Nancy Davis’ beautiful son, Jason Davis. We know that he would’ve loved nothing more than to help another person in their desperation and pain. We send love and light to Race to Erase MS, Nancy Davis, her husband Kenny Rickel, and Jason’s siblings, Brandon Davis, Alex Davis, Isabella Rickel and Mariella Rickel.” – Founder of RSF, Hilary Roberts

The initiative comes to fruition on the same day founder of RSF, Hilary Roberts, released her long-awaited, self-titled debut album. The album features a track list that will be sure to take listeners on the journey through the ups and downs of all things Hilary has faced in the past years – failure, success, redemption, heartbreak, frustration, and a whole lot more. Already released off the album, "Fight to the Other Side", also known as the song that saved a life, tells the story of Hilary’s friend, mentor, and survivor of MS, Annie Blake.

Earlier this month, Hilary and RSF announced its first-ever Jaana Woodbury Scholarship, which launched on September 1 and will feature a one in-kind 90-day treatment scholarship worth approximately $90K to help women with trauma and substance abuse.

If you or someone you love is struggling with substance use disorder or extreme depression, please visit RedSongBird.org to learn how you can get help.

ABOUT THE RED SONGBIRD FOUNDATION

Hilary Roberts started the work of the Red Songbird Foundation (RSF) a decade ago and made the foundation official in 2019. A survivor herself, the foundation aims to help survivors of trauma caused by sexual, physical, and verbal abuse, by providing counseling, assisting members to enter treatment, and by integrating members into support groups that specifically address their primary issues. RSF has already implemented dozens of scholarships, for example the #GiveGriefAChance Campaign amidst COVID-19, and a $100K scholarship for one applicant to get six months of specialized treatment at the Beach House Treatment Center in Malibu (NBC). The scholarships are aimed towards helping those who are affected by trauma, mental health and alcoholism/substance abuse in addition to bringing thought leaders in the field to provide education to the public. RSF now hosts names such as Jason Wahler (“The Hills”), Tim Storey (Dog The Bounty Hunter) and Brandy Ledford (Baywatch) as board members. For more information please visit Redsongbird.org.

About Race to Erase MS

Race to Erase MS was founded in 1993 by Nancy Davis and is dedicated to the treatment and ultimate cure of Multiple Sclerosis. Race to Erase MS is dedicated to the treatment and ultimate cure for MS.  Funding research is the core focus of the foundation and significant strides have been made to find the cause and cure of this debilitating disease. At the event’s inception 27 years ago, the absence of medications and therapies encouraged its involvement; the Race has been instrumental in funding many pilot studies that have contributed to drugs now on the market and other very important therapies that are improving the lives of people suffering from MS.

All funds raised support the Center Without Walls program, a unique collaboration of the world’s leading MS research scientists currently representing Harvard, Yale, Cedars Sinai, University of Southern California, Oregon Health Science University, UC San Francisco, Johns Hopkins, and UCLA. This nationwide collaboration of physicians, scientists and clinicians are on the cutting-edge of innovative research and therapeutic approaches to treat MS. It is the hope of the Race to Erase MS that in addition to combating MS through research in a clinical environment, awareness will be created by educating the public about this mysterious disease.
