Regeneration Programme in Essex Gets the Go Ahead

A major regeneration project has been given the go-ahead by Thurrock Council in Essex.

The regeneration programme in the Thurrock area will provide a further 3000 new homes in Essex including affordable homes for local communities.

The number of affordable homes available is not finalised, however the regeneration programme will create a large number of affordable new build homes for sale and to rent.

The new development will also include a range of other facilities including retail and commercial facilities for businesses setting up in the area. New restaurants, civic facilities and community facilities will also be built. A new school and health centre is planned to be integrated into the new development.

A new public square will also be built as well as a hotel and supermarket. It is estimated that the new development will also create around 1,140 new jobs in the area.

The potential multi-million pound regeneration of Purfleet was first announced by the Government two years ago. The proposal was put forward by Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation's planning committee and is subject to further consultation and a decision for planning permission to be granted by the corporation.

If the planning application for this regeneration programme is approved, the building work may start in 2013 with an estimated delivery time of ten to fifteen years.

According to Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation, the regeneration of Purfleet is one of their most ambitious and biggest regeneration programmes. It is also hoped that the redevelopment will provide a world class location to attract new businesses to the area to help the local economy in Purfleet as well as the rest of Essex.

The Thames Gateway area is an area along the River Thames that covers forty miles. The region includes North Kent and South Essex and provides a range of commercial space for businesses.
