Relay For Life Charity Event Planned At Stalker Chevrolet
Online, April 4, 2012 (Newswire.com) - In an effort to raise more money for his local American Cancer Society, Dr. Gordy Klatt decided to use his passion for running marathons to raise money and awareness. In May of 1985 Dr. Gordy Klatt spent 24 hours running on the track at Baker Stadium on the campus of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. Dr. Klatt ran more than 83 miles over that time span. This was the beginning of Relay For Life, as his efforts raised more than $27,000 to fight cancer.
The following year 19 teams took part in the first team relay event and raised $33,000. Today, Relay For Life events take place all over the United States and all over the globe, culminating in a marathon. Relay For Life is the largest cancer fundraiser in the world, raising over $4 billion for cancer research and treatment.
In an effort to raise money for Relay For Life, Stalker Chevrolet will be hosting a bake sale Wednesday, April 4th through Friday, April 6th from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. In addition to the bake sale Stalker Chevrolet is providing luminaria order forms for those who would like to honor or remember those who have been touched by cancer.
Relay For Life will take place June 22-23, 2012 from 6 PM to 6 AM, with the luminaria ceremony will take place on June 22 at 10PM on the Panther High School Track in Creston, Iowa. Stalker Chevrolet is proud to be part of this amazing event that helps the community and people across the world.
