Remembering Fromelles Presentation Event
Online, July 22, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Following the official commemorative ceremony that took place at Fromelles, France on 19th July, we are pleased to be hosting a special talk on the project, delivered by Julie Summers, compiling editor of the book of the same name, whose previous work includes "Remembered: An illustrated history of the CWGC".
We are also privileged to be hosting a member of the project's dig - the Team's Finds Specialist, Kate Brady.
Your day will discover a history of the battle as well as charting the story of the discovery of the mass graves, the archaeology behind the excavations, the question of identification, process of reburial and the construction undertaken of the first new Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery since the end of the Second World War.
In total the day will consist of 4 presentations.
Session 1 - The Battle of Fromelles, Paul Cobb. Author of Fromelles 1916.
Session 2 - Remembering Fromelles, Julie Summers. Compiling editor and historian.
Session 3 - The Archaeology & Finds, Kate Brady. Oxford Archaeology Team's Finds Specialist.
Session 4 - 20th Century Conflict Archaeology, Dr Nicholas Saunders, University of Bristol.
Tickets are priced at £12.50 or £10.00 for concessions (OAP's & service personnel / veterans). Refreshments included.
Proceeds from ticket sales support Combat Stress and SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association).
Remembering Fromelles takes place at Eastbourne College Theatre on Saturday 7th August 2010.
Doors open at 12.30pm (Sessions start 1.00pm - Finish 5.30pm).
