Remington College, America's Blood Centers, and Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Team up to Collect 684 Pints of Blood

3 Lives program addresses the need for more minority blood donors across the country

Heathrow, Fla. - (May 6, 2010) - Remington College, America's Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America recently wrapped up the first in a series of blood drives on Remington College campuses across the country and collected 684 pints of blood.

The program is called 3 Lives - because three lives may be saved for every one pint of blood donated. The blood drives focus on the need for minority donors - especially African Americans.

According to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA), African American blood donors provide blood with unique antigens that is vital for people battling sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases. Many people with sickle cell require frequent blood transfusions and it's best for them to receive blood that closely matches their own.

"We're making great progress toward achieving the goal of collecting hundreds of pints of blood that will help out the hospitals and blood centers in the communities where our students, faculty and staff live," said Jack Forrest, Remington College President and CEO. "An adequate blood supply is essential to the health and well being of our home communities and we will continue to heighten awareness of the need for more blood donors and encourage others to join in the effort to increase blood donations."

Each Remington College campus held the first of three blood drives for 2010. Additional blood drives are scheduled for June and September on the following Remington College campuses:

• Remington College of Nursing in Lake Mary, Florida
• Remington College-Houston, North Houston and Houston Southeast campuses in Texas
• Remington College-Cleveland and Cleveland West campuses in Ohio
• Remington College-Dallas and Ft. Worth campuses in Texas
